Loss of a child
Unfortunately in Ireland annually around 2000 boys and girls die, due to pregnancy complications and stillbirth, cot deaths, illness, various conditions, accidents or suicide. These deaths leave families heartbroken and wondering why?
For parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts & uncles, cousins and friends there is a tremendous void. The upset is immeasurable, and it is the one event in life that people feel they cannot get over. Whether 5 months, 5 years or 15 years, losing a child is incomprehensible.
Funeral directors deal with many types of difficult situations on a daily basis, and we generally provide good counsel and support for the bereaved. However, there are few words that can softer the pain felt when a child has died. We will do our utmost to assist but there are no words that can bring them back. We will liaise with hospitals, the Clergy and cemetery personnel to make the funeral proceeding as smooth as possible, but we understand that this is agony like no other.
Through experience we have found two particular Irish organizations especially helpful in these tragic circumstances and we urge those affected to seek help and support;
AnamCara.ie supports parents after bereavement and FirstLight.ie supports suddenly bereaved parents and families.
