Helping you since 1973

Pat Gleasure took a great chance in 1973 by turning the sod on The Gleasure Funeral Home. Pat was working in the family businesses in Rock Street; Gleasure’s pub (Pig n’ Whistle) and the mill at the Market Gate. Pat Gleasure opened the Gleasure Funeral Home in 1974 in Tralee. It was the second purpose built premises in Munster and at the time removals to Church were from the hospital mortuary or deceased’s residence.

The idea of a spacious premises which provided a soothing atmosphere with parking facilities was embraced and appreciated. Pat bought a number of local firms amalgamating their smaller numbers and spent many years building a client base. The phone was paramount and every call had to be answered, without the benefit of the mobile phone.

Funeral Directing is often considered a vocation as it involves direct dealing with upset, bereaved people in difficult, emotionally fraught situations always. Now Graham, Pat’s son continues the tradition and has carried on the Gleasure understanding while slowly enhancing newer method.
